RS 2.1Purpose and Entry
RS 2.1.1HWM (Health's Work Maintained) certifies that a facility is being operated and maintained in compliance with HWS Section 10.
RS 2.1.2A facility certified under HWC enters HWM at occupancy. A facility without HWC may enter HWM after an independent HWA-IV reviewer completes a baseline verification of the systems listed in HWS 9.2.1.
RS 2.2Annual Renewal
RS 2.2.1PrerequisiteThe owner shall submit an annual performance report covering each system in the operations and maintenance program, with verification results, deficiencies and corrective actions.
RS 2.2.2HWM is active for one year and is renewed each year on acceptance of the annual performance report. HWM that is not renewed lapses. A lapsed facility may be reinstated by meeting the renewal requirements in full.
RS 2.3Independent Re-verification
RS 2.3.1PrerequisiteAt least once every three years, an independent HWA-IV reviewer shall re-verify the facility on site.
RS 2.3.2The independence rule of RS 1.3 applies to re-verification. The operator's own staff and contractors shall not perform it.
RS 2.4HWM Level
RS 2.4.1HWM is awarded at the levels Maintained, one star, two stars and three stars, independently of the HWC level. Each level includes the requirements of the levels below it. The HWM level may be raised or lowered at each renewal based on verified performance in operation.
RS 2.4.2Enhancement · HWM Operations and maintenance leadership for the facility holds HWA-II or higher in the Operations and Maintenance discipline.
RS 2.4.3Enhancement · HWM Pressure relationships in rooms required to maintain them are monitored continuously, with alarms and a retained history reviewed at least monthly.
RS 2.4.4Enhancement · HWM Facility performance data are compared, in de-identified form, with care-environment outcomes such as healthcare-associated infections and falls, and the comparison is reviewed with clinical leadership at least once a year.
RS 2.5Status, Record and Plaque
RS 2.5.1The public verification record for each facility shows its HWC award (level, HWS edition and year) and, for HWM and HWO, the status (Active, Lapsed, Suspended or Revoked), the level earned in each year, the year of last renewal and the date of last re-verification. The record is kept in full for the life of the facility.
RS 2.5.2The HWC plate shows the Health's Work star with the HWC level in stars beneath it; the HWS edition, the level and the certification number; the owner and facility; and the city, region and country. The plate does not change after award.
RS 2.5.3Renewal panels hang below the plate. Each panel holds five years in two rows of equal tiles, one row for HWM and one for HWO. Each tile shows the program, the year and the stars earned that year. A year that is not renewed keeps its place as a blank tile. When a panel is full, the next is added below.
RS 2.5.4Display is the owner's choice. Two panels, covering ten years, is recommended. The owner may display more panels, or retire earlier panels and replace them with a single summary panel for the period retired. Retiring a panel does not change the public record.
RS 2.5.5Plates and panels are made and installed to the Health's Work installation guide, which sets mounting height, panel spacing, lighting, projection into paths of travel and cleanability.
RS 2.5.6The Health's Work star and the level stars are used only as set out in the Health's Work level mark: never alone, and always with the Health's Work name, the program and the level.
